Milo Hamilton, "The Voice of the Astros," Named an Honored Member of Cambridge Who's Who
He considers baseball to be his true love—when asked where he sees himself five years from now, he answers that he will continue commentating on baseball games well into his 65th year in the business.
HOUSTON, TX, November 27, 2008 /Broadcast PR News/ -- Milo Hamilton, main announcer for the Houston Astros and more popularly known by the monicker "The Voice of the Astros," will be included as an honored member in the 2008-2009 edition of the Cambridge Who's Who Executive, Professional and Entrepreneurial Registry for excellence in sportscasting.
A 59-year veteran of the broadcasting industry, Mr. Hamilton has been a sportscaster for Major League Baseball since 1953 and has enjoyed a career that includes stints with the St. Louis Cardinals, the Atlanta Braves, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and both Chicago teams. The Astros' main announcer since 1987, he specializes in sports announcing, conducting interviews, managing operations, generating paperwork, and hosting sports shows. His stature as one of the country's best and most recognized sportscasters was cemented by his involvement in some of the MLB's most memorable moments—he was at the microphone during such milestones as Hank Aaron's historic 715th home run in 1974, Barry Bonds' record-tying 70th home run in 2001 and Roger Clemens' 4,137th career strikeout in 2007. A sports aficionado, Mr. Hamilton also coaches baseball, basketball and football, even working as an announcer for the latter two. Still, he considers baseball to be his true love—when asked where he sees himself five years from now, he answers that he will continue commentating on baseball games well into his 65th year in the business.
Mr. Hamilton holds a Ph.D., a Master's Degree and a Bachelor of arts in Radio Speech from Iowa State University. He has won numerous awards and citations in the course of his long and distinguished career, including the Ford C. Frick Award from the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992, induction into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994 and induction into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2000, his achievement of which has made him only the 10th sportscaster in history to manage the feat. He will soon be inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. In addition to his regular duties with the Astros, he also hosts an off-season live talk show called Astroline and has published a book entitled Making Airwaves: 60 Years at Milo's Microphone.
